If anyone knows little Arley, they know that he is OBSESSED with trains. He has been since he was 18 months old. He is rarely without a train in his hand. On Sunday we decided to surprise the kids with a day trip to Kiama, on the train. When we got to the train station at Bomaderry, we told them where we were, and you should have seen little Arley's face when he realised he was going to ride a train. Carmie was super excited too, but Arley was over the moon. He kept saying "Wow!" under his breath as he watched everything pass by. It was so cute. When we got to Kiama, the kids had a little play at the park near the water, and then we had lunch (it took forever, and credit goes to the kids for waiting for their meal for over half an hour!). After lunch we walked up to the blowhole, and then back to town for ice-cream before getting back on the train to come home. The kids were totally pooped out afterwards and slept the whole way home in the car from Bomaderry. And Arley has asked every day since if we can all go "on an adventure" again. I don't know how we will ever top a train ride though! It's the simple things!
We didn't do much else this weekend, except for a visit to the library, which is one of the kids' favourite places to go. Arley kicks up a fuss every morning when he realises that he has to go to school, and is being very stubborn on these days. We get a lot of foot stomping and "No, I don't want to!" about anything we ask. He would be most happy if he could just stay by my side every minute of every day. Luckily though he has really taken to Jeff this week, and even asked him to read his bedtime story (this is a first in three years!!). Also, another good thing is that Carmie is able to console Arley. I often hear him crying and then stop, and turn to see Carmie with her arms around him and him leaning in for a good snuggle.
So, it was a good week! Hopefully next week will be just as good. Carmie seems to have a bit of a cold, but she's pulling through.
Here is a short video of Arley on the train :)
