We've had such a busy week! The kids had their first week home from school, and it was a success. We did tons of fun stuff, the kids were great to be around, and I still got my work done. I can't ask for much more than that. We had a really hot day last Friday, so I took the kids to Narrawallee Inlet for the day. They started out at the park, and ended up down at the water, and I was fully equipped with morning tea AND lunch, books and toys. We had such a lovely day, and for the most part, had the inlet all to ourselves.
Over the weekend, we had lots of family time. We took the kids to Bunnings to get supplies for a birdhouse, as Carmie has wanted to make one for a while. We put Jeff's wood working skills to the test, and he succeeded with flying colours. The kids painted the birdhouse, and it's really cute. On Sunday it was our 8th wedding anniversary, so we took the kids to Batemans Bay for a little day out. We had lunch at a restaurant, then took the kids to this crazy playhouse cafe (they LOVED it), and then out for ice cream. It is so nice not having any kids that nap in the day, and no huge need to hurry home. We had five long years of napping, and now we are free :)
Monday was really hot, so the kids and I decided to spend most of the day at the pool after their swimming lessons. We had a picnic lunch out on the lawn, and had a really big swim session. On Tuesday Carmie had a play date at her friend Vanessa's house, so Arley and I went to the farm for the day. Arley tried to ride Carmie's bike (dismal failure!), but he did have fun on the farm truck and feeding the horses. We had a rainy day at home on Wednesday, but the sun cleared after lunch. I was out the front with the kids, weeding the garden, when little Gemma, our two year old neighbour came out to play. Her dad Michael and I were chatting while the three kids were running around the cul-de-sac. Carmie came up and asked me if they were allowed to go to the neighbourhood park. I told her not without me. That was when she thought to tell me, "Umm, Arley's already there". Two year old Gemma and three year old Arley had decided to run down the path at the end of the cul-de-sac, around the corner, and cross over a busy neighbourhood road to go to the park by themselves. By the time we caught up to them, they were climbing on the play equipment. I swear we only took our eyes off them for half a minute! Gemma instigated it, and Arley followed. They got a huge talking to! And then they got a play at the park.
Yesterday I took the kids over to my friend's house, and they had a play with her two kids, who are much older but absolutely brilliant with Carmie and Arley. This week we also played with clay and made heart ornaments and pinch pots. They did their reading and math games on the computer, and Carmie got very involved with playing alone (I'm still working on Arley). Tonight at bedtime, Carmie stayed up and read a chapter book from start to finish. And we are all healthy! Arley was on his antibiotics for ten days, and I did bribe him with a new Thomas train to finish them, which he did. You should have seen the joy on his face when Rosie the train 'arrived from Sodor'. All in all, such a good week :)
