We have had a good week, albeit Arley being quite a terror. As I always say, he can be really sweet, but when he has his moments, they are doozies. We had a lovely visit from the kids' Oma and Opa , which included two dinners and a trip to Narrawallee Inlet. The good news is that Arley saves his terrible moments for the privacy of our own home, so to the outside world he is a regular little three year old boy. But when he is safe with us, he unleashes his inner monster. The worst was two nights ago when he decided to have a tantrum from midnight to 3:30am. He called me in to his bedroom 6 times, to tell me that he didn't like his blanket, his sheet was touching his chin, he couldn't do a puzzle, and he was bored with watching Jake and the Netherland Pirates (a show he hasn't watched in at least a month). That last one sent me over the top, and in the dark I packed up his trains and tracks (as forewarned) and left him to cry. Jeff eventually went in to him, and then I did go back in too, but our night's sleep was ruined. The brilliant thing for me is that the next morning, Jeff helped Carmie to a bowl of cereal before he went off to work, and then unbeknownst to me, she entertained herself until Arley woke up, and then entertained him until I rolled out of bed a 9 o'clock! I was in a panic when I woke up, and the two of them were rebuilding his tracks in his room. I have never slept in like that, and I have to say, it was quite nice!
So anyway, it turns out that Arley has a bout of tonsillitis. Brilliant. It could be why he is impossible to deal with, or it could just be that he is a three year old terror determined to send us to the loony bin. He has had an upset tummy for several days, and kept mentioning a sore throat. I had a look and saw a golf-ball sized tonsil so I ran him down to the doctor (we had to bribe him with ice-cream just to go), and she confirmed my tonsillitis suspicion.
Despite all of this drama, the visit with Oma and Opa was really nice, and we are determined to go up to see them next time (expect a visit too Ciri!). The kids also had a playdate with Carmie's friend Ness, did some baking, painting and jewellery making, and had a trip to the pirate ship park with their dad. Nothing like keeping them busy!
How good is Bella, not even sniffing at his plate of food? She was patiently waiting for her leftovers :)
