283 + 179 Weeks

Our weeks are flying by these days, and I can't believe it is almost Christmas.  I am so unprepared, and it is rather difficult to shop now that the kids are home all the time.  We did get our Christmas tree up this week though, and the kids think it is SO beautiful.  Things have been good this week - Arley turned into a normal three year old that throws regular tantrums, instead of some completely irrational monster child.  He has been completing a sticker chart for bed times, because they got really bad for a bit, but he has seven stickers so far, and he is doing better.  He doesn't like it when we leave him alone at night, and gets separation anxiety when I leave.  For the first time in two years he has started eating dinner.  Admittedly, it is coerced and we have to bribe him with other foods, but we can now actually get him to eat his 'grown up' food.  This is huge, because I think it was more about the power struggle than anything, and now he seems to be handing over the reigns a bit.  He claims to hate everything we ask him to eat for dinner, but for five nights running he has eaten his food.  And this morning while he and Carmie were playing in his room, she got upset, and I actually heard him say sorry to her, which he has always absolutely refused to do.  Small steps!

The kids had two play dates this week, one with Hannah's little brother Alli and one with Carmie's friend Alice.  We have also had several trips to the swimming pool, as we bought Arley a Wahu vest (a floatie), and of course the first time he absolutely refused to wear it, but the second time (again with some bribery) he wore it and found his independence in the water, and LOVED it.  So I think we are going to spend a lot of time at the pool this summer.  Carmie is a champ, and according to Jeff who took them today, she was swimming backstroke laps.  We also got to Narrawallee Inlet again today, but it was blown out, so we didn't stay long.

Things are looking up, hoping they stay that way until after Christmas at least!
