We went to the beach for perhaps the last swim of the season for us this weekend. We chose to go to the Bombie, and it was SO beautiful! And we even ran into a friend there, so the kids had a playmate. It was such a lovely place for a picnic lunch, and Carmie did some rock climbing, and Arley drew in the sand. We spent the next two days inside because it was raining, and we didn't even make it to Carmie's gymnastics class. The two days at home seemed to reset Arley, and he was so calm. On Wednesday Jeff and I went to see the psychologist, and for the first time there wasn't too much to say! I left thinking that we have done so much work with the kids, and our efforts are paying off. And then today Arley had two massive meltdowns and it felt like we were back at square one. But tomorrow is another day, and fingers crossed that today was just a hiccup. Poor Carmie was sick today. We drove up to Sanctuary Point, about 45 minutes north, so she could go to radio. Carmie is prone to carsickness, but I forgot to give her a motion sickness tablet. She did radio, and then when she got up to leave, she was sick, everywhere :( . The poor thing. It was all over her, and inside the studio, and out in the foyer. She said she was feeling better and we got in the car to drive home, and within five minutes she was vomiting all over the car. So not cool. I don't know if it was the drive that made her sick, or it was something that she ate, but she had to sit in her mess all the way home, and then I had to spend 45 minutes cleaning out the car and washing her car seat. Poor little poppet, she had a long bath and seemed to recover, but she didn't go to Japanese class this afternoon, just in case. She kept all of her food down since then, so hopefully she will wake up tomorrow right as rain.
So our psychologist gave us some good news on Wednesday - we have been worried for a while that Carmie has ADD, and we started an assessment on her. We gave our psych the OT's assessment, which shows a significant motor delay. Our psych who has been assessing her, said she thinks that Carmie is nuero-typical, and that her problems (a huge aversion to do anything sitting at a table, being seriously clumsy, hating writing etc) are due to her gross and fine motor delay, and that once we incorporate all of her OT exercises - which we have started - she will race ahead and excel in everything, like she does with reading. Such a relief!! And she also said that she hasn't seen a kid like Arley in quite some time. His reading is off the charts - he reads to me every night, completely fluently, and his colouring-in is amazing. I know I'm bragging, but it's so nice to do what with everything else we have to deal with!
