398 + 294 Weeks

Well, we took our first camping trip this week, from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon.  We lucked out and found a great spot ten minutes away, where it was bush camping, with amenities, and you could have a camp fire.  Even though it was only ten minutes away, it felt like it was a different world.  We could have been anywhere - we had never even been to that beach before!  And luckily it was only ten minutes away, because Jeff had to head home twice for things we had forgotten!  Ha ha. It was such a lovely camp site, and the beach was just stunning.  There weren't many people there for the Friday night, but it filled up a little more on Saturday.  Sadly I didn't sleep well on Friday night (even though I was totally comfortable and it was a beautiful night to be camping), so it meant I wasn't my best self on Saturday, and couldn't make the day as fun for the kids as I would have liked.  We hit the beach all three days, we explored the rock pools, climbed the boulders, flew a kite, played in the playground, went hiking, played games with the kids... Their favourite part was the fire every night.  We let them play with long sticks in the fire, and they couldn't get enough.  Little pyromaniacs.  We were visited by quite a few wallabies, kookaburras and a big goanna.  We were worried that Arley was going to be out of sorts, and rightly so.  He was pretty snappy on Saturday, and for most of the trip all he did was beg for the special snacks I had brought along that he doesn't get at home!  On Saturday afternoon he had a massive meltdown.  Luckily we were on our hike in the bush so he didn't disturb the other campers, but unluckily he refused to follow me so we were stuck out in the bush together for ages while he raged.  I couldn't just walk away and find some space.  He was a lot better after he calmed down, and the rest of the trip went smoothly.  I'd say it was a success, as we made some great memories, and the kids want to go camping again.

We also went to the waterpark on Monday, and the kids were happy because their dad came too.  Everything is way more fun with their dad :)  The waterpark was completely empty except for us.

Arley managed to go back to Scouts with Carmie this week.  Last week I had to stay for the whole session, but this week I only had to stay for 20 minutes, so he is getting braver.  The kids had horse riding again, and now that Carmie has trotting under her belt, she gets to try cantering next week, and she is so excited.  The kids had a massive play with their homeschool friends today too, after Japanese class, and it was so nice to see them all together making up games and running around like mad.  This morning we had behaviour therapy and OT, so it was a pretty big day.  In therapy we are working on play skills, structuring play sessions and scaffolding for the kids so they can learn how to play together and interact with each other without things falling to pieces within 30 seconds.  It was a good session today, so I have high hopes.

It has been a really full on week, and I'm looking forward to a quiet one next week.
