448 + 344 Weeks

Jeffrey and I took off to Sydney this past weekend, to see Billy Idol.  The concert was awesome!  We stayed in Paddington, had an awesome dinner at a vegan restaurant, drinks before the concert, got great seats, the concert rocked (!), then drinks after the concert, then a night in a hotel room with a morning sleep in.  And I actually managed to get 6 hours of sleep - insomnia be damned!  We had such a good time, even though it was a flash trip, it was well worth it.  The kids had Lolo and Dida come to stay at ours so they could be looked after here, and they were very happy about a weekend with their grandparents.

The drive home from Nowra was pretty dismal, as so much of it has been hit by the fires.  It looks like a creepy wasteland.  We took a small detour into Conjola because Jeffrey hadn't been there yet, and I got some car photos, see below.  It"s all still so heart-wrenching, and it's very easy to pretend that nothing is wrong, until you leave the house and see the devastation.

The kids and I have been getting out and about, making up for all the time stuck inside.  They've had horse riding and tennis, of course, and their swimming lessons have started up again, as has PEAK after school care.  I got them out to the Ulladulla sea pool (too cold for me!).  Another day we made it to the skate park in Ulladulla.  The kids scooted around, and were very impressed by the 20-somethings skating around on their boards, and one woman in roller skates.  Now Arley is saying he wants a skateboard, as does Carmie.

Yesterday it was the most beautiful day - mildly hot and slightly breezy.  The kids and I decided to go on an adventure to Green Island, which is a little island off of Manyana, and you can only get to it at low tide.  The trek over to the island was very hairball, because I was wearing flip-flops and carrying the heaviest backpack in the world, and you have to walk/scramble over all of these round, wet rocks.  But we made it, and the kids loved it.  They kept saying, "This is like paradise!"  They had a long swim in the ocean and we had a picnic lunch on the sand before walking a little around the island.  Then we played word games in the sand before heading back to the car.  We passed a park the kids hadn't seen before, so we stopped and they had an hour-long play before we headed home, and let me tell you, the kids were exhausted!

Today we had a quiet one, with a nice trip to the library.  Arley and Jeff have both had colds this week, although Arley keeps insisting that he is not sick.  He sounds dreadful, but apparently that's what healthy people sound like.

So, my exhibition with Michael Reid starts tomorrow, and I've already sold 6 out of 11 pieces, and got 2 commissions!  I was thinking about taking a break from painting for a while, as the new business has me really busy, as do the kids!  Somehow I have to make this work.  I just told Carmie she would have to go to school so I could work.  She got bug-eyed and froze.  Ha ha, the joke is on her, I would never send her to school unless she wanted. :)
