At the beginning of this week we had amazing weather, beautiful sunny days for the end of summer. And then come Wednesday, it got cold and rainy, and that is the forecast for the next week or so. Welcome to autumn!
On Friday I took the kids to a place called Willinga Park at Bawley point. It's an equine centre, where they hold equestrian events, and they had a dressage competition going on. The place is absolutely massive, with manicured gardens and giant sculptures everywhere. It's simply beautiful. We watched some of the dressage competition, which the kids thought was rather amusing, as the horses were prancing around and almost looked like they were dancing. Afterwards we walked around and visited the horses in their stalls. It was a really lovely morning.
Jeffrey took the kids to the sea pool on Saturday so I could work on my commissions (which I finally finished this week!!), and then on Saturday night we finally made it to Collers Beach for our Saturday night beach dinner. In the summers we usually go there every Saturday night, but due to the fires and then the torrential rains, we only just got there this year :(
The kids were brilliant at horse riding this week, and it looks like we are going to start them doing a group lesson in the afternoons too. We are going to stop Arley's group swimming lessons and replace it with more horse riding. This is because Arley has moved up into the large pool, and it is far too overstimulating for him there. There are four other kids in his class, as opposed to two, and there are kids in all of the lanes around him, and it is really noisy. Too much going on. Last night after swimming he had a massive meltdown, well over an hour. I'm not going to put him through that again, so we are looking into short private daytime lessons for him. The cutest thing was, Carmie got him out of his meltdown by getting him a bowl of ice cream. She just showed up with it. The coldness and the sugar did the trick.
The kids have been having lots of rat play this week. Bella is still as interested as ever in the rats and spends half of her day up on her hind legs watching them. Arley has this trick sneaking up behind you and plonking a rat on your shoulder. I am used to it now, but the first few times it scared the daylights out of me!
We've had a difficult few days with Arley. He seems to have reverted into his old self a little - quite hostile and angry at times. We are trying to pinpoint the change so we can figure out what to do, how to make him happy again. I think it is still due to the upheaval from the fires, and the rains, and now more rains - not being able to get outdoors as much. Plus, I have been working so much, on both my commissions and the business. He really struggles when he doesn't get my full attention. I've got to figure it out, because it's been a rough few days.
This morning I took the kids to the library to get out of the house, and then we made a trip to the supermarket (always fun times). I spent the afternoon working at the computer - the kids seemed happy enough to do their own thing. But it all fell apart tonight. Tomorrow I'm taking them to the Milton show (despite the rain forecast!), and I'm going to shower them with attention all weekend. Fingers crossed that does the trick.
