We have been keeping pretty busy despite the restrictions of the Coronavirus. Jeffrey has been laid off from his job until August at the earliest. We were expecting it once all restaurants and clubs were mandatorily closed. It will be strange to have him home every day, but the kids are happy about it! It will give us time to get our house in order, as well as provide me with a resident cook every night :)
On Friday we had the last of our really hot days, so we went to Mollymook Beach. Zach was still down here then, so we took him with us. The kids and I went boogie boarding, and it was so much fun. It was a taste of how our summer should have been, and we are determined to have four boogie boards next year so we can do it together.
On Saturday night we had our second and what might be our last beach dinner for the season. It was so beautiful out, and the kids had a blast. They got 'stranded' on a rock in the ocean, and they did running race after running race on the sand. When they get competitive, they just keep going, and they are as fast as each other, so the competition goes on and on until they are exhausted.
Another day we went to the lighthouse oval and played Finska followed by cricket practice. It was really fun. The kids then continued to do even more running races! We are trying to get the kids out every day for exercise, as we are fairly housebound. But I have to say, as far as social isolation goes, we are in the perfect place for it! We have long stretches of beaches to explore, beautiful hikes to go on, massive unpopulated ovals to play on...it's perfect. And the kids are still continuing their horse riding and tennis lessons, as neither has closed and we feel there is no danger there. And thank goodness for those activities, as they really help the kids.
We have been having a little trouble with Arley again. He has become a little ornery - I am sure it is because of all of the changes in his life, but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with. I lost my patience with him today at the park, and my guilt is pretty awful. It was yet another 15 minute session of pushing my buttons, after a day of pushing buttons, and I snapped. When he gets in a mood, it is really hard to snap him out of it, and it affects all of us. Arley can't just be grumpy, he has to make sure we all are!
He is brilliant with the rats though. We started using Jackie today to calm him down when upset, and it did work. Arley likes to make them rat toys and tunnels and houses to play in. That always puts a smile on his face.
The library closed yesterday, so Carmie and I raced there before closing and borrowed piles of books. She is one happy camper now.
