I am happy to report it has been a really good week. I am trying to think back to any dramas, and I'm not sure there have been any! I'm sure there were some, but none that really stand out.
On Friday my close friend Ciri popped in for a visit. It was lovely to see her again, and I'm really looking forward to seeing her and her family more often as they come up to Scott's Head sometimes. Ciri and I realised this is the closest we have lived together since we were fifteen, and we will be able to see each other that much more often! Yay to moving to Coffs Harbour!
One day we took the kids up to a place called Red Rock where there is an inlet and the most beautiful beach. Arley fussed a bit at the inlet, but loved the beach. He just loves punching waves! Carmie and Arley had a swim with their dad, while I watched on as the water isn't warm enough for me yet. I was a little worried when we left the south coast that I wouldn't find it as beautiful up here, but it definitely is. There are some truly beautiful places!
Another day we took a drive through Upper Orara, which quite literally has the most beautiful countryside I have ever seen. We drove to a river and a place called Magic Pools where we had a picnic lunch, an exploration and a swim. It was really lovely, except we were overrun by march flies! Next time we will arm ourselves with some good natural repellent. We took Bella with us, and she loved the river!
On Sunday we went to the kids' friend Charlie's birthday party. It was in Bellingen on their farm, and was great. Arley was overwhelmed by all the kids and spent three quarters of the time in the car, but the brilliant part was that he had a succession of kids joining him in there to keep him company. At one point they had a 'car party' so he wasn't left out. It was very sweet, and I met some really lovely parents too.
We have had quite a bit of drama over Arley's sock/shoes/sandals situation, so one day I took him to the mall to buy some sandals that he is happy with. He is a difficult case, because he is having huge issues with socks at the moment, even seemless socks. Also, it is getting quite hot, so sandals are a better option, but they have to be close-toed so no one can see his feet (don't ask!). They also need to be super comfortable so that he wants to wear them. We had to wait until everyone cleared out of the shoe store before I could try the sandals on him, and he was stiff with anxiety. But we succeeded, so now that is one battle we're not facing every morning. While we were at the mall Jeffrey took Carmie to Sawtell for ice cream and a photo session! She came back all smiles, and we have some lovely photos.
Today we went to the pool for a swim. It was a little windy out, so the indoor pool was the place to be, however it was more crowded than we like due to school holidays. We did have a really fun swim though, and we'll be doing it more often. The kids are insisting at least once a week, so we'll see. When we told them we were both going swimming with them, they both cheered and jumped around so excited. It is so nice to be loved like that. We really are their favourite people in the world!
Ratty love!
