491 + 397 Weeks

The good news this week is that Arley finally had a great horse riding lesson today!  It took an incentive (I told him he could earn himself and Carmie a TV dinner night tonight if he did everything he was supposed to).  Jann his instructor told me he put in 150%, held the reins correctly the whole time, trotted around the arena like a pro, and only asked once when the lesson would be over (as opposed to a good ten times).  Finally she was able to see a little of what he is capable of, and the best part is that he came back all smiles and is really proud of himself.

It has been a pretty good week.  The weather has been weird, crazy hot one day, windy the next, rain and storms the next.  One day we got to the Butterfly House, which was quite lovely.  I am a but squeamish around butterflies, so I have to pat myself on the back for making it through.  There is also this great maze there, so the kids had some fun getting lost.  Another day we made it back to dog beach, but the water was surprisingly cold!  Everyone else was swimming, but I couldn't bring myself to.  I reckon I'll get into my wetsuit next time, even though I'll be the only person on the beach in one.  I don't like missing out on all the fun!

Yesterday we finally made it to the Nambucca homeschool meet up after missing it for three weeks.  It was at V-Wall again, and the kids weren't super keen on going except to see their friends Charlie and Will.  The weather was a bit off, and it rained at first, then turned into a beautiful sunny day for a few hours, and then it got really windy so we wrapped it up.  Arley wasn't in the best of forms and was quite mean to another seven year old boy there.  Arley just doesn't really do well with boys his age, and this kid was following Will around, and I think Arley was a little territorial.  I made apologies, but when Arley gets set in his ways, there's no convincing him otherwise.  When it got windy we split pretty fast, as wind always sets Arley off, and he was already a bit off kilter.  He lashed out at Carmie, and that was my cue.  I can't wait until we can get him the help he needs, because he really is such a sweet boy until his anxiety kicks in.

This week we also got up to Sapphire Beach park again, and Carmie did some more tree climbing.  On the way back we went to Sealy lookout for an amazing view of Coffs, and then we went and had lunch in a cafe downtown.  Another day we made it to Sawtell beach for a swim.  It is so beautiful there!  So lovely in fact, that I went back myself the next morning for an early morning beach walk.  It was exactly what I needed.

So, all in all, a good week :)
