It's been a good week, I think. On Friday the kids and I ditched homeschool tennis (they much prefer our private lessons), and we went and explored the Botanic Gardens which are just downtown. I had no idea they were going to be so big, and so beautiful! I can't figure out how they fit downtown, as I didn't even know they were there, but once you are inside, they just go on and on. They were really beautiful, and I'm sure we are going to have many picnics there in the future. That afternoon the kids and I had our hair cut, and we all went really short. Jeffrey's kinda mad about it, but we all feel so much better! It is a little humid up here, so short hair feels way better!
We stayed home over the weekend, did some baking, played some games, had lots of computer time... On Monday we went to the pool to meet up with some other homeschoolers. I am starting up regular meet ups with the Coffs Harbour homeschool group, just like the Nambucca group meets up every week. Only one other homeschool family came, and her kids were teenagers so not the best mix, but we have had quite a lot of interest, so I think there will be a lot more people next year.
On Tuesday Arley had a visit from his support worker. I'm glad his therapy is finally starting, but now it's on hold again until the beginning of January! He has to have a sensory assessment because he hasn't had one done since he was three, so that will be interesting. We had family tennis on Tuesday afternoon, but Jeffrey couldn't make it because he had just tweaked his back. That meant more balls for me, and it was so fun! I don't think I could love it more!
The Nambucca homeschool group had their end of year camp this week, from Tuesday morning through to today. We opted not to camp (it would not be compatible with Arley!!), but we went for the day on Wednesday. The kids had fun, but Arley got over it quite quickly. He gets overwhelmed among crowds very easily. Also, there was a river they were all kayaking and swimming in (Arley took to kayaking like a champ!), but when they all started swimming, Arley found it too muddy and couldn't handle it. Carmie had a blast until someone threw mud and it got in her eye :( So we left, but we were all thoroughly tired, so it was time.
Today while I took the kids to horse riding (Carmie cantered again finally, and Arley has mastered the reins!!), Jeff had to get his last wisdom tooth removed. It was actually a double tooth (ew!) and has left a massive hole so he also had to have stitches. He brought the tooth (I should say teeth) home to add to our science collection so we can gross people out. He is doing surprisingly well - we thought he would be in a whole lot more pain. He is very glad it's gone, as it's been bothering him for years. Speaking of teeth, I almost forgot, I took Arley to the dentist this week too, because he was having pain in his front tooth. I don't remember when it was, but it must have been a good three years ago that Carmie opened the car door and hit Arley in the mouth, turning his front tooth grey. It started to hurt for four days last week, then the pain went away. The dentist said it is infected, but we don't know how long for because Arley has a really high pain tolerance. This could cause problems with his adult tooth, as in it might be discoloured, or have enamel problems or be misshaped, so we have to wait and see. He has to get the grey tooth pulled but they can't get him in until January 20th! I have a script for antibiotics if the pain comes back. He is a little worried but interested in the laughing gas they are going to give him.
Carmie is the same as always, growing taller and sweeter every day. She is a pretty happy little girl, despite all that she has to deal with. She's going to the paediatrician on Tuesday of next week, and Arley is going for a med review on Monday. My fingers are crossed!
We have a solid week of rain ahead of us, so I think we will have lots of home time coming up! It's quite a bummer, because we had plans this weekend to go choose our Christmas tree and get our outdoor decorations up. Not so sure it's going to be possible! :(
